I specialize in portraits and weddings photography but my main passion lies in documenting my travels through photographs. I also recently took the role of co-founder of [The Glass Passage](http://theglasspassage.com/) where me and my partner Meredith curate city guides. Our wish is to inspire others to travel on a more budget friendly scale. A defining moment was when I graduated with a business degree 2 years ago, I sold my car and decided to do a work exchange program (helps.net) where I backpacked through Europe, worked at B&B’s and on farms for 5 months. ![title](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/a3mdxq7wtgslmsn/Screenshot%202015-09-30%2012.58.19.png?dl=0) <- *** -> ~ ##### I fell in love with learning about new cultures and history, getting lost wandering through villages while photographing everything that came my way. I lived with families and learned how they garden and cook meals along with daily chores and ways of life. It broadened my horizons and infinitely opened my eyes to how other cultures live compared to Texas. ~     <- *** ->![title](https://storage.googleapis.com/b.swipeusercontent.com/mw3pk4zyMKd5s778FSXgEEqmrseRxr-1600.jpg)<- *** ->My secret to living well are farmers markets, jogging, and getting out of your comfort zone. I absolutely love being able to explore a new city by jogging and getting around like the locals do. By shopping at local farmers markets means you get a taste of what is seasonal in that region and obtain a sense of different culinary influences in certain places. And to constantly challenge yourself by trying new things and pushing yourself is the best way to grow. ![title](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/a8kgvdq96he1uan/Screenshot%202015-09-30%2015.22.19.png?dl=0) <- *** -> ~ ##### For freelancers starting out, network every single way possible. For me, social media has been a huge help. #Hashtagging helps locals around you see your photos and you meet others with similar interests in your community. I have met loads of inspiring talented people from Instagram who I have become great friends with over the past few years. ~    <- *** ->![title](https://storage.googleapis.com/b.swipeusercontent.com/foxLsdhkTc3QOqdKJ5bMYX9Jf-stpO-1600.jpg)<- *** ->My interests are constantly changing, whether it be photographing the Milky Way or something as simple as the steam from my morning coffee. I am inspired by photographers who do portraits of people that they don’t know - l always get too shy to start a conversation or to ask to photograph them, but I'm striving to build the courage up to do so. ![title](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/t5wstg8l8mepn59/Screenshot%202015-09-30%2015.26.48.png?dl=0) <- *** -> ~ ##### Sticking to some sort of schedule is important. After a weekend of photographing a wedding, I typically have a week off to work and edit from a coffee shop. Setting daily goals and making lists has really helped me. ~<- *** ->![title](https://storage.googleapis.com/b.swipeusercontent.com/avdZkXBgR7CJWGrRUWT-a690k4yEzd-1600.jpg)<- *** ->The greatest part about my job is its flexibility - every day is a little different. But one thing I can say I do daily is practice some sort of photography, whether it be photographing my breakfast that morning, or working with long exposure night shots. I am doing something that challenges me but that I also love. I can do it alone or with others, at any time of the day. ![title](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/ozj6prtmueex8xu/Screenshot%202015-09-30%2015.36.04.png?dl=0) <- *** -> ~ ##### The one thing I can’t emphasize enough is that you don’t have to follow the typical beaten path. Education is first and foremost the most valuable component, whether it be from studying at a university, shadowing a mentor, or traveling. I grew up thinking you had to get a degree, get married, and start having children but now I have realized that nothing is more important than seeing the world and getting outside of the bubble that you grew up in. ~     <- *** ->![title](https://storage.googleapis.com/b.swipeusercontent.com/Eq1QUIavORDX0tRGpBPSXAc52XkYVv-1600.jpg)<- *** -> A lot of people ask me how I am able to afford to travel so much. Let’s just say I am not doing it glamorously. With The Glass Passage we have learned that public transportation is your best friend and saves so much money while traveling. Stocking up on fruit and nuts before a long trip helps save money instead of buying super expensive train or airport meals. In Europe, the second hand stores are a great way to find cheap clothes, but we realized that it doesn’t matter what you look like while traveling. It is also important to try to not look like a tourist so you aren’t at higher risk of theft. [Hostelworld](http://www.hostelworld.com/) and [Airbnb](https://www.airbnb.co.uk/?af=43720035&c=A_TC%3Dfn4tcwf9ep%26G_MT%3De%26G_CR%3D70539075276%26G_N%3Dg%26G_K%3Dair%20bnb%26G_P%3D%26G_D%3Dc&gclid=CjwKEAjwkK6wBRCcoK_tiOT-zFASJAC7RAri78eJv9d3-WEkubvSXWH_q1pc4gnmnJtBZuiF9xCWbBoCYOPw_wcB&dclid=CMfB8dXLnsgCFQp32wodJQoDpA) are some of our favorites along with [Couchsurfing](https://www.couchsurfing.com/). We have recently discovered [BlaBlaCar](https://www.blablacar.co.uk/) which is a carpooling service where you basically just pay to cover gas and often, it takes less time than a train or bus. Happy travels! ![title](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/uxlqdn6h7qmpzqt/Screenshot%202015-09-30%2015.43.42.png?dl=0) <- *** -> ~ [Instagram](https://instagram.com/augustaleighphoto/) / [Website](http://www.augustaleigh.com/) / [The Glass Passage ](http://theglasspassage.com/) ~ <-
